HOWJ: Heat Sheet Mock Meet
Good Morning Water Jets -
We are very excited for the Mock Meet tonight. Reminder of the schedule:
- 4:45pm - Arrive for Individual Pics
- 5pm - Arrive for Team Pic / warm-ups (No parents on deck until after pics are taken)
- 6pm - Meet begins (we will do our best to start EARLY if we can)
Before we jump into the rest of the reminders for tonight - PLEASE DECLARE your swimmers for the meets next week if you haven't already. This MUST be done by tomorrow morning so Coach Whitney can work on the lineups for Monday.
OK... now about Mock Meet tonight! Here we go....
HEAT SHEET: Attached is the heat sheet for tonight. First time parents: It will be helpful for you to bring a copy of this to the mock meet. You may want to wait until later in the day to print - in case we have any changes. It will also be helpful to download the Swimtopia App to your phone. You may want to pay $2.99 to upgrade for the month of June (set a calendar reminder to cancel it at the end of the month). The paid version will allow you to follow along with your swimmers races at the Home Meets and at SOME of the away meets.
PLEASE be listening to our announcer (Thank you Greg Burba!) and make sure your child is in the Clerk of Course when they need to be. Please do NOT leave the meet until your child has finished all their assigned races. If something happens and you need to leave early - you must notify a Board Member or Coach.
There WILL be some last minute changes to the relay teams tonight. Thanks in advance for your flexibility.
WHAT'S AN IM?: Some kids are swimming the IM (Individual Medley Relay) They will swim Butterfly/Back/Breast/Free in that order. Feel free to write it on their arm if that helps.
SUITS/CAPS: All swimmers must wear a Hunter Oaks suit, and girls must wear a Hunter Oaks cap (please put it on after pictures). NO other logos may be on the caps. It is also helpful to sharpie your child's first initial and last name (Ex. E. Jordan) on their shoulder blade. This helps the Clerk of Course immensely.
You may also want to bring your swimmer an extra towel or sweatshirt to warm up between the races as the weather is a bit colder than usual.
DQS: There will be a LOT of DQs tonight. Please don't be upset if your child is DQ'd - it's VERY normal for the first meet. Coach Whitney needs to know who is using a freestyle kick with breast stroke arms - for example. This will help her next week to know where each swimmer needs to improve.COACHES IN THE WATER: For our 6 and unders - coaches are allowed to be in the water for the first TWO meets only (per the GCSL rules). After that, if your swimmer cannot make it across the pool unassisted, then they won't be able to swim in the meets. They will still be invited to attend practices and hopefully will improve enough to join the meets later in the season.
WEATHER DELAYS: It's summer in the Carolinas and there are bound to be weather delays this season. BUT the meet is ON unless you hear otherwise from us via email.
VOLUNTEERS: Please read through the Volunteer Descriptions that went out this morning and let us know if you have any questions. It takes over 50 volunteers to run these meets - we can't do this without you!
Have a great Thursday and we'll see you on deck tonight!
